Would Donald Trump Pardon Former Binance CEO CZ?

by shayaan

Former Binance CEO Changpeng “CZ” Zhao says he would not refuse US President Joe Biden’s pardon despite not wanting to return as CEO of the crypto exchange.

CZ pleaded guilty to money laundering last year, agreed to step down as CEO and was given a lifetime ban from “managing or operating” Binance. He was released from a four-month prison sentence in September and has since emerged as an investor in artificial intelligence (AI).

In the US, the president can pardon individuals convicted of crimes in what is called a “pardon.” This effectively removes the penalty from the person’s record, which in this case means CZ could return as CEO of Binance.

President Joe Biden on Sunday forgive his son, Hunter Biden. Earlier this year he was pleaded guilty to tax and gun charges earlier this year and was awaiting sentencing. In response, people began discussing the possibility of CZ being pardoned as well.

“President Donald Trump should consider a pardon for CZ so he can return to CEO of Binance and help the crypto industry mature,” Johannes Lilicco-founder of the centralized exchange TelosX, wrote further Tweet. “He is also subject to legal fees.”

“[I have] I don’t want to be CEO anymore,” says CZ replied. “But [I] I certainly wouldn’t mind being pardoned.”

In response to the news that Biden pardoned his son, CZ reacted boldly retweeted the message with an eyes emoji. The responses to the former CEO’s tweet are flooded with people claiming as much he should subsequently be pardoned. CZ responded by saying: laugh.

Most people are rooting for Donald Trump to pardon the crypto founder, rather than Joe Biden. This is due to the Republican’s pro-crypto stance, which promises to shake up the industry.

Trump promised to end the “crypto crackdown” and replace it with friendlier regulations, as well as create a strategic Bitcoin reserve and dominate the Bitcoin mining industry.

Before winning re-election, the Republican candidate pledged to pardon Silk Road founder Ross Ulbricht, who is currently in his twelfth year in prison, in a post on Truth Social. Some crypto enthusiasts saw this as a positive move, while others thought so. skeptical. But for starters, pardoning CZ will likely be a more popular crypto-related pardon for Trump.
