The British government has introduced a new bill that extends its powers to grab and destroy crypto in connection with criminal activities.
After the Bill’s of crime and police First reading in the Lower House, the bill is now undergo The second reading and will soon continue to the committee phase.
The new legislation aims to improve the ability of the police to confiscate illegal crypto assets and bring it back to victims, while also strengthening the general approach to the country’s economic crime.
An important determination of the bill grants the Kroonhof the powers to cope with the confiscation with crypto.
The Crown Court is a British court that deals with serious criminal cases, such as murder, fraud and theft. It also has the authority to pass on large sentences.
The bill also outlines how to deal with assets that must be destroyed, so that their value is correctly assessed on the basis of market prices at the time of destruction.
In addition to the expansion of the seizure powers, the bill contains provisions to simplify the assets recovery process, allowing law enforcement to reclaim stolen funds and it can be directed to victims.
The bill strives to ensure that those who are responsible for crimes involved do not retain the benefits of their illegal activities.
This new account is a supplement to the Economic crime and transparency law of companies (Eecta) passed in 2023, which gave law enforcement extra powers to freeze and grab crypto.
The Eecta also wanted to improve company responsibility for financial crimes. This new account is now improving these measures to tackle the growing threats of crypto crime.
Crypto crime in the course of the UK
The VK is confronted with an increase in crypto-related crimes, with illegal transactions linked to the country estimated at $ 1.7 billion and $ 5.1 billion a year, according to the National Crime Agency of the VK.
One of the most disturbing trends includes violent house invasions aimed at stealing digital assets.
A group of seven British men was sentenced to a total of 76 years in prison in January after kidnapping and torture of a man to force him to transfer hundreds of thousands of dollars to Crypto.
Another shocking business was a house invasion in 2020. During the attack, a victim established in Scotland was threatened with a machete and made to transfer his crypto.
The Machete attackers were eventually caught, but not before they caused considerable damage and need for the victim.
Apart from violent crimes, fraud and money laundering with regard to crypto are also unbridled.
In 2017, a gang of fraudsters operated a Maas in an Australian stock exchange, Mosospot, allowing them to withdraw large sums of money. It went unnoticed for some time.
The group was imprisoned for money laundering and the court ordered them to repay $ 30 million in stolen funds last month.
