August is the month “Do you remember that franchise?” Apart from the annual Madden game, many of the games we look forward to this month are looking forward to older franchises – one of which has not seen a new entry in almost 15 years.
There are a few remake/remaster-type games on this list, but our first entry, Mafia: The Old Country, is a return to the roots of the series.
The new dying light play brings us back to the original protagonist, but in a new environment and with new powers. What is old is new again!
In general, things are a bit light when we enter the back of the summer. There is not really “downtime” during a certain season, and the summer is certainly not devoid of new titles as it once was.
This year we brought our controversial releases such as the Nintendo Switch 2 and Mario Kart World, Dune: Awakening, Death Stranding 2, Donkey Kong Bonanza and Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3+4, including. Even if it is light, there are still a number of games that are worth seeing.
Mafia: the old country
Release date: 8 August 2025
Platforms: PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S
Here is the only thing you need to know about Mafia: The Old Country: it’s not an open world game.
In contrast to Mafia III in front, Old Country is a linear narrative story. You play as a gangster Enzo Favara, navigating through the criminal underworld of Sicily from the 1900s.
You drive horses, drive old-fashioned cars and use weapons such as stiletto knives and sawn-down shotguns while traveling through his story with Enzo.
Even better, this game goes for $ 50, so it is especially worthwhile to keep an eye on.
Madden NFL 26
Release date: August 14, 2025 (Early access 11 August with Deluxe)
Platforms: Nintendo Switch 2, PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, EA App), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S
Another August, another Madden competition.
But that does not mean that there is nothing new to enjoy here for seasoned fans.
Together with all the new player data we can look forward to new functions such as coach DNA, in which “Coaching Logic now simulates real NFL head coach styles and tendencies.”
A new weather system that adds depth to the gameplay will also be introduced, making it much more than a visual function.
Sword of the sea
Release date: August 19, 2025
Platforms: PC (Steam), PlayStation 5 (Day-1 on PS Plus)
You are a warrior with a sword, but nobody to fight and no memory of fighting.
And so your sword becomes a surfboard, and while you explore the world of the sword of the sea, you surf the sand of the world, rehydrat when you go.
If you look at this trailer and remove travel vibes, good news: this was developed by Giant Squid, the developer behind Abzû, De Padloos and Reis.
Dying Light: The Beast
Release date: August 22, 2025
Platforms: PC (Steam, Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S
In this independent game you step into the boots of Kyle Crane, protagonist of the original dying light. The character has passed brutal experiments for 13 years by a man named De Baron, and Kyle is ready to take revenge.
Thanks to all those experiments, he has new powers. The most prominent is that in the title. Kyle can let go of the beast, so that he can tear both zombies and human enemies and tear apart, make huge jumps and more.
The game has extensive stealth options, driving and more to make its rural location exciting to explore and fight.
Gears of War: Reloaded
Release date: August 26, 2025
Platforms: PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox Cloud (Via Game Pass)
But wait, you say, have we not just received a Gears or War Remaster with Gears of War Ultimate?
That was ten years ago, and Gears of War is approaching his 20th birthday. If you are an older gamer, I am sorry that I told you.
Gears of War: Reloaded not only brings the game to PC and Xbox, but also to PlayStation 5 – priceless for those of us who played the original on the launch day (or turnout day in Gears of War Parlance).
This new edition of the classic game contains the primary campaign with a 4K resolution with 60 fps. At the same time, multiplayer up to 120 FPS goes on consoles (and probably what your GPU can process on PC).
It has modern improvements such as 4K textures, HDR, upscaling and improvements in functions such as shadows.
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater
Release date: August 28, 2025
Platforms: PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater releases this month after a long waiting time.
Although a remake is, this is the first major entry in the Solid Series series of Metal Gear in years, and is of course made without the involvement of series -maker Hideo Kojima.
This is a remake of the game from the ground, with modern graphics and new functions. For example, scars of treated wounds remain persistent on Snake’s body, while his uniform changes will reflect as a result of gunshots and other wounds, as well as dirt stains and leaves collected by sneaking.
You also have access to real-time camo swapping. Delta has both a classic metal gear control scheme and one that better matches the sensitivities of modern gaming.
Shinobi: Art of Vengeance
Release date: August 29, 2025
Platforms: Nintendo Switch, PC (Steam), PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S
This year is without a doubt the year of the Ninja – at least for video games.
We already have Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Ninja Gijiden Black II and Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound. Ninja Guiden 4 will be released this fall.
But for that, Sega will release his Shinobi franchise for Shinobi: Art of Vengeance, at the end of August.
Shinobi keeps track of the series with its 2D side-scrolling carrots, but brings beautiful art and promises tight, satisfying gameplay.
