⚡️ MegaETH introduces its MEGA token and innovative tokenomics

MegaETH launched its own MEGA token on Thursday morning, along with a very lucrative airdrop and ICO unlock.

For those unfamiliar, MegaETH is a Ethereum Layer-2 network with the goal of being the fastest EVM compatible blockchain ever built. The technical goals are 100,000 transactions per second, block times of 10 milliseconds, and sub-millisecond latency – about 5,000 times faster than the Ethereum mainnet. Under live mainnet conditions, the network has maintained throughput that supports these claims since its launch in February.

It’s built for consumer-facing, real-time applications, in theory the kind of things that are impossible on slower chains because users don’t want to wait for confirmations. Think of onchain games, social apps, high-frequency DeFi. The project has raised a total of $470 million and counts Vitalik Buterin, Joe Lubin and Dragonfly Capital among its backers.

It’s worth briefly touching on the token structure, because it’s really different. Of the total 10 billion MEGA tokens, 53.3% are only unlocked when the network reaches specific performance milestones, as opposed to a fixed calendar. The first milestone required 10 ecosystem apps, each recording 100,000 on-chain transactions in 30 days. That was accomplished on April 23, leading to Thursday’s launch. The next unlock will require $500 million in circulating supply of USDM, the network’s native stablecoin, which was valued at $300 million at launch. The idea is that most of the supply can’t hit the market until MegaETH proves it has real users generating real activity.

At the current FDV of $1.7 billion, anyone who participated in the ICO in 2025 achieved a quick 70% return – not bad for a bear market. And that valuation is supported by a rising TVL (MegaETH flipped Monad in DeFi TVL to $490 million) enough to make its way into the top 15 chains. Moreover, the market capitalization in mUSD increased by 60% today to $270 million

🤐 Crypto is the most hidden topic on X

X head of product Nikita Bier shared data this week showing that crypto is the most ignored topic on the platform’s “For You” feed, ahead of politics and conflict in Iran.

The data comes from X’s recently launched snooze feature, which allows users to hide unwanted topics for 24 hours.

Nikita was clear that the finding does not reflect a shadow ban. He claims he is not anti-crypto (a longer discussion for another time). And he is an advisor to Solana and a venture partner at Lightspeed. Maybe it’s the shilling, token launches and low quality promo content, or maybe it’s just bear market stuff. Or maybe both…

🏈 Kalshi is now a top-5 US sportsbook

Research agency Eilers & Krejcik Gaming published data on Thursday that shows this Kalshi was the fourth largest U.S. sports betting operator in Marchsurpassing BetMGM, Caesars, Bet365 and BetRivers.

The metric is EKG’s proprietary benchmark for predicting market activity, tracking daily open interest movements, execution prices and settlement day activity rather than traditional measurements. The sports prediction markets reached an estimated monthly volume of $2 billion in March, representing 11% of the combined U.S. online sportsbook port.

The March Madness tournament was the main driver. Kalshi recorded total trading volume of $13 billion in March alone, an insane 15x year-over-year, with 86% of that volume being sporting event contracts. Only DraftKings, FanDuel and Fanatics were bigger. EKG projections for full year 2026 predict that market volume could reach $34 billion, which would approach nearly 20% of the total sportsbook handle.

🚩 Another DeFi protocol gutted as the number of exploits worsens

Wasabi protocol About $4.5 million was withdrawn Thursday morning after an attacker compromised his implementer’s administrative key.

The attack lasted about two hours before security companies flagged it. The mechanism was identical to both the Drift Protocol exploit ($285 million, April 1) and the Kelp DAO exploit ($292 million, April 18) – a single remote account that had full control of the administrator, with no multisig, no time lock, and no board delay. Once the attacker had the key, they immediately granted themselves administrative privileges, upgraded Wasabi’s vault contracts to malicious implementations, and emptied Ethereum, Base, Berachain, and Blast balances.

DeFi losses in April have now surpassed $770 million in more than 30 incidents, making it the worst month for crypto security since February 2025. The problem remains tied to protocols that give a single private key unilateral control over user funds. Curve founder Michael Egorov and André Cronje of Flying Tulip both publicly called for industry-wide security standards this month.
