Japanese bitcoin treasury firm Metaplanet received its first third-party coverage by an equities research company when it was featured in a report on Monday by UK-based Storm Research. The boutique equities research shop founded in 2009, specializes in small to mid-cap Japanese stocks. “The world’s third largest economy is host to hundreds of listed companies with little to no analyst coverage,” the company explains on its Linkedin page. It’s no surprise that Metaplanet, one of the best performing stocks globally in 2024 finally got Storm’s attention. The so-called “Microstrategy of Asia” has gradually increased in prominence after implementing a successful bitcoin treasury strategy last year that saw its stock rocket 3,600% in twelve months. Prior to 2024, Metaplanet was a struggling hotel developer, bleeding money six years in a row. “Pleased to share that Storm Research has initiated coverage on Metaplanet, our first third-party research report,” Metaplanet CEO Simon Gerovich posted on X. “An important milestone to help institutional investors understand our bitcoin-first strategy and business model.”
