Crypto trading platform KuCoin is betting big on Australia, increasing investments and unveiling new products designed to help consumers use digital assets for their everyday purchases.

According to the company’s Australian managing director, James Pinch, KuCoin’s moves into the market are an “evolution”, building on its already established presence in the region with its appointment and the launch of a new office in Sydney’s Central Business District.

Pinch spoke at the Australian Crypto Convention as KuCoin continued to deepen its investments in Australia said that the country is an ‘exciting place to be’ right now, with an increasingly established regulatory environment and a growing market for digital assets.

As regulatory reforms come into effect and AUSTRAC steps up scrutiny of the virtual assets sector, KuCoin has already established itself as a market leader in regulated products, with Pinch noting that “you have to be agile and adapt and ensure that your products comply with whatever jurisdiction or regulation they apply to.”

The exchange was formally registered as a digital currency exchange with AUSTRAC in November 2025, allowing it to operate nationally under formal supervision and reach a vibrant market of more than 20 million adult consumers.

“As a global platform built on trust, securing AUSTRAC registration is an important milestone in strengthening KuCoin’s global compliance architecture,” said BC Wong, CEO of KuCoin.

Australia is leading the way

“Australians tend to be at the forefront when we start talking about alternative investments,” Pinch said, a view supported by recent developments. research conducted by the stock exchange which found that around 22% of Australians now own digital assets.

KuCoin’s Australia Market Report found that accessibility to financing was a “defining theme” among Australian crypto users, with potential customers looking for compliant, reliable platforms that minimize friction when moving into and out of crypto.

Figures show that more than half use bank transfers to top up their crypto accounts, while just over 40% rely on credit and debit cards as an alternative, while less than a third use digital wallets for financing and less than a quarter use P2P trading.

KuCoin launches KuCard in Australia

To meet the needs of Australia’s growing crypto consumer base, KuCoin has been working on ways to make crypto more accessible for real-world use.

KuCarda new virtual cryptocurrency debit card, allows users to complete cryptocurrency purchases nationwide anywhere Mastercard is accepted. The new feature also extends to Apple and Google Pay and is aimed at consumers who prefer contactless payments on their smartphones. KuCard “aligns with the payment habits Australian users are already familiar with,” a spokesperson for the exchange said, offering a crypto-enabled card payment experience within the card, tap-and-pay and mobile wallet environments they “already know and trust, making it easier to use crypto beyond trading and investing.”

Transactions can be completed using USDC and 37 trading pairs involving the stablecoin will be accepted at launch. Digital assets are instantly transferred to fiat currency for settlement, meaning crypto enthusiasts no longer need to manually convert funds in advance.

KuCard helps make crypto “truly useful in everyday life,” by “enabling the spending of digital assets at scale in a safe, secure and compliant way,” said Christian Rau, Mastercard’s senior vice president of digital commercialization.

KuCard helps connect digital assets to real-world commerce through a “trusted Mastercard payments experience,” Pinch said, noting that “for regular users, utility is the turning point.” He added that KuCard builds on KuCoin’s mission to “support broader adoption while reinforcing the importance of security, governance and responsible innovation.”

Australia has become one of KuCoin’s most important markets for global regulated markets and localization, Pinchsaid said. They pointed to the launch of the KuCard as a sign of “continued progress” in building a comprehensive product ecosystem spanning trading, asset management and payments experiences, while “laying the foundation for the introduction of more regulated products to the market.”

The launch of KuCard in Australia is “not just the rollout of a standalone payment product,” the spokesperson added. Instead, it represents an “important step in KuCoin’s broader local strategy” by connecting users’ digital asset accounts to real-world spending scenarios and expanding the product journey from “trade and hold” to “practical everyday use.”
