How Seal Unlocks the Full Potential of Walrus’ Web3 Data Platform

In short

  • Web3 -data platform Walrus has launched its decentralized Secrets Management (DSM) service segregation on Mainstet.
  • Seal combines access control with threshold coding, so that “fine -grained and programmable data access to data on walrus can be stored.”
  • User cases include NFTs with access control, decentralized document signing and AI applications.

Decentralized data management has long since ceased as one of the most transforming innovations of Web3, but according to Walrus Foundation Managing Executive Rebecca Simmonds, it still has to realize its full potential.

On today’s Web3 storage solutions, data is public, coding is left to app developers and access control is “hard coded, brittle or completely missing”, Simmonds says.

That has been set to change with the contemporary mainnet launch of SealA decentralized Secrets Management (DSM) service with which users can control access to data stored on the decentralized storage platform of Walrus -the first time, according to Seal and Walrus developer Mysten Labs, which has offered a decentralized data management solution access control.

Access control is the “murderer function for Walrus,” Simmonds said Decrypt. “All decentralized storage is largely open and people have access to it,” she explained, while Seal Walrus builders enables “determining who has access, when they have access to it, they pay you to gain access.”

In combination with those of seals threshold codingThis ensures “fine -grained and programmable data access to data stored on Walrus”, opening a series of possibilities. Data -owners can offer AI models limited access to their data for a price, while NFTs could be used to unlock access to content such as video or music files, Simmonds said.

“Most NFTs are just a link, and we are all to the broken to the left of the NFT images that have disappeared,” she said. “That doesn’t happen on Walrus; you actually own the NFT, you control the entire NFT.” That, she said, “a real simplicity to be able to meet many of these promises.”

“In 2018, 2019, 2020, we talked about all these things, but the technical pile was not there,” she explained. And although “you may have been able to do these things by combining many different things,” she added, Walrus and Seal were built in a very seamless way. “

“A trust layer for web3”

Walrus was made by Mysten Labs, the team behind leading Layer-1 Blockchain Sui, is designed to be more than just a decentralized solution for data storage, Simmonds said. “We talk about Walrus as a data layer for web3,” she explained. “Every bit of data that you save on Walrus is actually a blob, so it’s a small container in itself; you can write a smart contract that arranges the way in which Blob or Data Acts arranges, and it will act exactly as you expect.”

In combination with Seal’s Secret Management Service, she said, Walrus gives users “the freedom to control and create value of their data. In contrast to a black box and just sitting on a shelf, you can now do it things that have never been possible before.”

“For example, imagine a walrus and seal -driven version of Spotify where artists can permanently store their music, set exactly who can hear it and when, and is paid immediately without losing a reduction to intermediaries,” Simmonds explained. “They retain full control, see transparent Onchain analyzes for every game and can create unique fan experiences such as Token-Gated Listenfeesten or Timed Early Releases All without trusting a centralized platform.”

Brands from the entire web3 room already use walrus, Simmonds said. They include NFT Collections Pudgy Penguins and Claynosaurz, Decentralized AI Training Model Platform Flock.io, Decentralized ad Network Alkimi, which counts Coca-Cola to its customers and and DecryptThey save articles and videos on the decentralized data layer.

“AI is particularly suitable for Walrus with seal,” said Simmonds. “The AI -Boom has made it clear that AI is only as good as the data on which it is trained. Walrus enables AI models to verify and verify workloads, to prevent poisoned data sets or damaged results, and seal upscales that are possible by offering data privacy.”

Further innovative use cases for Walrus have been shown in recent hackathons, she added, including decentralized document drawing application Suisign, and WalpressWith which users “can easily create and publish decentralized websites to Walrus.”

“We have many partners in the pipeline that develop new and different use cases that are only possible with the combination of Walrus and Seal,” said Simmonds, adding that Walrus is: “A modern data platform for a modern blockchain solution.”
