EY Upgrades Nightfall With Zero-Knowledge Tech for Private Ethereum Transactions

by shayaan

EY has rebuilt its enterprise-oriented Ethereum Layer-2 Blockchain eveningfall as a zero knowledge role, eliminating waiting times for transactions finality and simplifying the architecture of the platform.

The update, released on Wednesday, replaces the previous optimistic Rollup design from Nightfall with a cryptographic approach that verifies transactions before they are submitted to Ethereum. This removes the need for challenge periods that can slow down the finality for days.

Now Nightfall_4 is called, the technical transition from EY offers various benefits than speed.

The replacement of a “Cryypte -economic approach with a cryptographic approach” simplifies Nightfall architecture because as a result “it is not necessary to house challenging incorrect blocks,” EY said in a rack.

The move offers “the same privacy and scaling that has engaged version 3, but now with near-instant finality and a simplified architecture,” said Paul Brody, Global Blockchain Lead at EY, in a statement.

Although EY said Nightfall_4 and supporting tools are publicly available, their GitHub storage Does not reflect the change and opens a 404 error, which means that it has not been updated.

From optimistic roles to zero knowledge

While optimistic roles Require games-theoretical security assumptions and economic stimuli to catch fraud, zero knowledge implementations offer stronger cryptographic guarantees.

The new design also improves privacy Zero knowledge certificates This transaction makes validation possible without revealing underlying data.

Nightfall remains allowed for the business customers of EY, despite the open-source code basis. The platform makes private transactions on Ethereum possible while maintaining the security benefits of the main network and reducing costs.

In the meantime, Enterprise users would still benefit from the integration of Nightfall’s integration of industry-standard identity certificatesThis prevents anonymous use and at the same time retain the privacy of the transaction.

The timing coincides with improved regulatory conditions for privacy technologies, according to the decision of the American treasury Elevate sanctions On Tornado Cash, a previously on the blacklist -bright crypto mixer.
