Tokyo-listed Bitcoin treasury firm Metaplanet has appointed Eric Trump, the son of US President Donald Trump, to its newly formed Strategic Board of Advisors.
Metaplanet announced Trump’s appointment on March 21, confirming that he will join as the first official member of the new advisory board. The board aims to unite influential voices committed to advancing financial innovation and Bitcoin adoption.
The company stated that this move reflects its dedication to building a top-tier advisory team. Trump brings experience across multiple industries and has become increasingly vocal about Bitcoin and digital assets.
Metaplanet described him as a strong advocate for Bitcoin adoption and a valuable addition to its strategic direction. It added:
“Eric Trump brings a wealth of experience in real estate, finance, brand development, and strategic business growth and has become a leading voice and advocate of digital asset adoption worldwide.”
Simon Gerovich, Metaplanet’s Director, expressed optimism about the appointment. He noted that Trump’s global business insight and engagement with the Bitcoin community will help accelerate the company’s vision of becoming a world-leading BTC treasury firm.
According to Google Finance, the news sparked investor interest, pushing Metaplanet’s stock up by over 17% to ¥4,730.
Strategic appointment
Eric Trump’s appointment appears to signal a deliberate step in Metaplanet’s international growth strategy.
After listing its shares on the OTCQX in December, the firm has worked to expand global visibility and attract US investors.
Considering this, Trump’s son’s presence on Metaplanet’s board could help boost the firm’s appeal among American investors, especially as it positions itself as an emerging alternative to Michael Saylor’s Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy).
Eric Trump has taken a more public role in the crypto space. He is connected to World Liberty Financial, a family-backed digital asset venture. Earlier this month, he endorsed his father’s pro-crypto policy and expressed support for both Bitcoin and Ethereum on social platform X.
