Chrome Unleashes AI to Block Scam Notifications Before They Trick You

Chrome rolls out a defense system that catches scam reports before they can do damage. The latest update of the browser for Android devices now uses machine learning on the device to identify and mark suspicious reports that you may try to mislead to download sketchy software or transfer personal information.

Google confirmed on Thursday that the new warning system of the report is active, which gives Android users an extra layer of security against an ever -occurring form of mobile scam.

“When a notification is marked by Chrome, you will see the name of the site that sends the notification, a message warns that the content of the notification is potentially deceptive or spammy, and the option to report to the site or the marked content,” said the chromTeam in a Blog post announcing the position.

Basic scam based on notification have become the digital equivalent of those annoying pop-up windows who have plagued previous versions of the internet now they are more difficult to recognize. These new pests can even follow you even after you have left a website, so AI works better on your device than on server -based AI, according to Google’s assessment.

Instead of sending your notification data to Google’s servers for analysis, Chrome uses Gemini Nano’s multimodal possibilities to distinguish the good from bad reports. The Machine Learning model examines the text in each report – including the title, body content and any action buttons – and makes a decision about whether it looks fish -like.

This also means that Google has no access to your notifications, because they remain coded and never leave your phone. Google claims that it has taken extra precautions with the training data, with the help of synthetic information generated by the Gemini large language model instead of actual user reports. The company then validated these training data against real reports that his security team collected and had human experts classified.

The system contributes to the growing Arsenal of Chrome against the abuse of notification. The browser already draws reports from sites in those Google Safe-Browsing identifies as offensive and offers one-tap cancellation for a notification about Android, whether it is marked or not.

For now, the position is only Android, because that is where most reporting spam takes place, but Google hinted with possible expansion: “We will evaluate the expansion to other platforms in the future,” the company said.
