Bessent Backtracks on Bitcoin: Treasury Committed to ‘Budget-Neutral’ BTC Buys

After saying earlier Thursday that the United States would not buy Bitcoin for its planned strategic reserve, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent apparently had a change in heart and left the door open again for potential purchases.

“Bitcoin who is finally forfeited to the federal government will form the basis of the strategic Bitcoin reserve that President Trump founded in his Executive Order of March,” he wrote on x. “Moreover, Treasury is committed to exploring budget-neutral paths to acquire more Bitcoin to expand the reserve and to carry out the promise of the president to make the ‘Bitcoin supker force of the world’.

Said Bessent Fox company Earlier Thursday that “we are not going to buy that”, in reference to Bitcoin for a strategic American reserve. The comments were contrary to earlier statements by civil servants in the Trump government.
