Apple brakes on the brakes on an expected AI update for his digital assistant Siri, said the tech giant on Friday. Apple confirmed that the renewed version of Siri with Apple Intelligence is expected to come out later than expected “in the coming year”.
In a statement to Daring fireballJohn Gruber, an Apple spokesperson, said that although various improvements have been made to Siri – such as integrating the assistant with OpenAi’s chatgpt and makes it more conversation and accessible – other functions will take more time to roll out.
“We have also worked on a more personalized Siri, giving it more awareness of your personal context, as well as the possibility of taking action for you within and about your apps,” said the spokesperson. “It will take us longer than we thought to deliver these functions and we expect to roll them out in the coming year.”
Apple has not officially stated the reason behind the break. Reuters Reported that the update is now expected in 2026, but Gruber estimated that Apple will release the completely renewed Siri with the launch of iOS 19 and MacOS 16 – which are expected somewhere this fall. The Apple Intelligence functions are not included in recent Beta updates from Apple developers.
Apple did not respond immediately Decodeer ‘s request for comments.
While Apple promises a new wave of AI-driven experiences in iOS, macOS and iPad, the company is now faced with the challenge of keeping pace in a continuous AI-weapon race. Some dissatisfied users went to social media to express their frustration about the delay.
Apple has already rolled out various AI functions for users, including adjustable emojis, a generative AI image generator in messages and AI-driven search for Apple TV and Apple Music.
The delay in the upgrade of Siri raises questions about the AI strategy of Apple after strongly shifted to artificial intelligence in 2024. These AI-oriented plans include a planned investment of $ 500 billion in AI research announced in February, and a partnership with Semiconductor Developner.
