In short
- Algorand rose more than 40% last week after Google cited the “real-world implementation” of post-quantum protocols in a research paper.
- Render gained almost 10% in 24 hours, driven by demand for AI and alignment with the trend.
- Numerous users see an 82% chance that oil will hit $120 next as geopolitical uncertainty remains.
Algorand has extended its rally over the past week, buoyed by a recent quote in a Google research article detailing the blockchain as an early adopter of post-quantum protocols.
Algorand rose about 13% to $0.12 over the past 24 hours, according to CoinGecko data, easily outpacing the broader crypto market. It’s up more than 44% in the past week, a move experts attribute to growing interest in the quantum-proof story.
Google’s whitepaper, ‘Securing Elliptic Curve Cryptocurrencies against Quantum Vulnerabilities’ published on March 31, Algorand identified it as an example of “real-world implementation of PQC on an otherwise quantum-vulnerable blockchain.”
The article highlighted that Algorand had deployed post-quantum Falcon digital signatures for smart transactions and sovereigns, executing its first PQC-secure transaction in 2025 and enabling native key rotation. “Although this mechanism does not currently provide complete quantum security, it facilitates future PQC migration,” the paper’s authors wrote.
The rally reflects “renewed focus on quantum computing risks” following the publication of Google’s article, Leo Fan, founder of Cysic and former quantum resilience leader at Algorand, told Declutter.
“Algorand stands out because it has post-quantum signature schemes like Falcon live on the mainnet and was specifically referenced in the paper, giving it strong technical and narrative momentum,” he said. If the quantum security discussion continues to gain momentum, Fan added, it could “evolve into a sustainable market issue” based on credible long-term risks and institutional research support.
Other analysts echoed Fan’s view.
“The recent Algorand rally seems closely linked to the publication of this Google Quantum AI paper,” Illia Otychenko, chief analyst at cryptocurrency exchange CEX.IO, told me. Declutter. “The article highlights Algorand’s real-world implementation and leadership in post-quantum cryptography, putting the project directly in the spotlight.”
Markets view the quote as a strong confirmation of Algorand’s quantum-safe lead, says Andri Fauzan Adziima, research leader at Bitrue. Declutter. Near-term momentum could expand with “solid volume and breakout technicals,” he said, although volatility and potential profit-taking remain risks.
Preparing for Q-day
The quote indicates that Google sees Algorand as a leader in preparing for “Q-day,” a future event where quantum computers could break current cryptographic standards.
The whitepaper also noted Algorand’s protocol-level support for real-world asset tokenization, with USDC available on the network specifically because it supports post-quantum digital signatures.
Other gainers in this sector included Render, which is up 9.9% today and around 9% over the past week.
Render Network is a decentralized GPU computing platform for applications ranging from 3D rendering to machine learning and generative AI, with AI demand and hype driving the trend.
Broader crypto market sentiment remains cautious and sensitive to geopolitical headlines Bitcoin currently trading at $66,925, up 0.8% on the day according to CoinGecko data.
Users in the prediction market Myriadowned by Decode parent company Dastan, allocate only a 41% chance that Bitcoin’s next move will be a rally to $84,000, while crude oil is expected to see a rise 82% probability before pumping to $120, underscoring ongoing geopolitical uncertainty.
That uncertainty was heightened this week when President Trump vowed to “hit Iran extremely hard over the next two to three weeks,” with no indication of plans to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, which would keep oil prices high and put pressure on risk assets.
