Why Bitcoin, Ethereum and XRP Are Surging Today

by shayaan

The crypto market is staging a broad recovery after a volatile reaction to the US midterm elections. Bitcoin has reclaimed $80,000, while Ethereum and XRP have joined the rebound, supporting gains across major digital assets. The recovery comes alongside a sharp reduction in bearish positions, improving conditions across traditional markets and renewed investor appetite for risk-sensitive assets. With nearly $773 million in crypto positions liquidated over 24 hours, the key question is whether improving market conditions can sustain the rally.

Why Is the Crypto Market Rallying Today?

The latest rebound reflects a combination of macroeconomic developments, political uncertainty easing and improving sentiment across financial markets.

US equities recovered following the midterm election volatility, helping restore risk appetite. The Dow Jones, S&P 500 and Nasdaq all advanced on November 4, while declining oil prices and a weaker US dollar provided additional support to risk-sensitive assets.

Oil prices have been particularly important. Lower energy prices can ease concerns about inflation and reduce pressure on expectations for interest rates. This has helped improve the broader investment environment, although the Federal Reserve’s policy outlook remains a key variable for markets.

The political backdrop has also influenced trading. The midterm results initially triggered uncertainty around the future direction of US crypto regulation. However, investors appear to have reassessed the immediate impact, allowing digital assets to recover alongside equities.

$772 Million in Crypto Liquidations: Short Sellers Take the Biggest Hit

Derivatives activity has played a major role in accelerating the latest recovery. According to the latest liquidation data, the crypto market recorded $772.75 million in forced position closures over 24 hours, affecting 102,784 traders. Short positions accounted for $534.38 million, compared with $238.37 million in long liquidations.

This means short positions represented approximately 69.2% of total liquidations. As prices moved higher, bearish traders were forced to close positions, creating additional buying pressure and accelerating the market rebound.

The shift suggests that while short sellers absorbed most of the losses over the broader 24-hour period, bullish traders have faced increasing pressure during recent price fluctuations.

Bitcoin, Ethereum and XRP Lead the Recovery

Bitcoin’s move above $80,000 has provided an important boost to the broader market. Ethereum has reclaimed $2,400, while XRP has moved above $1.30. Their gains indicate that the recovery has extended beyond Bitcoin into major altcoins.

Ethereum has shown stronger percentage gains than Bitcoin during the rebound, suggesting renewed interest in large-cap alternative cryptocurrencies. XRP has also participated, although its advance has been more moderate.

The next challenge is whether these assets can maintain their recovered levels. Bitcoin needs to defend $80,000, while Ethereum and XRP must sustain buying interest around $2,400 and $1.30, respectively.

Is the Rally Sustainable?

The crypto market has regained momentum, supported by improving macroeconomic conditions, a rebound in equities and substantial short liquidations. Bitcoin’s recovery above $80,000 has also helped Ethereum and XRP attract renewed buying interest.

The next phase will depend less on short covering and more on whether fresh spot demand, institutional inflows and improving market participation can support higher prices.
