Coinbase Wins UK License to Offer Stocks and Derivatives Alongside Crypto

Crypto exchange Coinbase has received regulatory approval to offer equities and derivatives to UK customers, the biggest expansion of its product range in one of the biggest international markets and the latest move towards what it calls the ‘everything exchange’.

The exchange said on Tuesday it had been granted a UK investment services license, known as a MiFID licence, from the Financial Conduct Authority, allowing it to offer traditional financial instruments alongside crypto.

Retail users will be able to trade stocks on Coinbase for the first time, the company said in a press release statementwhile institutional and advanced traders gain access to derivatives spanning crypto, stock and commodity futures.

The UK approval furthers Coinbase’s ambition to become a… “exchange everything”a single app that covers crypto, stocks, derivatives, prediction markets, payments and savings and compares it with brokers, banks and fintech apps.

In the US, it became the first centralized exchange to be allowed to offer crypto eternal futures and has started rolling out stock trading, Kalshi-powered prediction markets, and tokenized stock plans. It’s recently added savings and loan products for British users.

Britain’s new rules

The authorization is next to Coinbase’s UK e-money license And crypto registrationa stack that the company says makes it the “most fully regulated crypto player” on the market. It comes as Britain finalizes its broader crypto rulebook together with the FCA publishing his framework end of June and a full regime coming into force in October 2027.
